Pieces of Maya has always been here. For years, in my heart and mind and now in front of the world. For many growing up in a country, which may be foreign, celebrating their culture comes with hesitation like myself. Throughout my teenage years, I longed for small steps to help me overcome this hesitation. Pieces of Maya would've been that step for me. I believe jewellery holds a small portion of our identity, especially when the jewellery is ethnic. Wearing ethnic jewellery could be a small step towards embracing our cultures for individuals in a similar situation as myself. But most south-Asian ethnic jewellery isn't easily accessible or reasonably priced in western countries.
